Geospatial data is where information about a physical object’s location on Earth is determined using numerical coordinates. It is a subset of spatial data and comes in a number of formats. It is more complicated than tabular or nongeographic geometric data.

Geospatial data is georeferenced or relatively positioned on a planet and has a terrestrial coordinate system which can then be shared with other geospatial data. For example, if you have data about an object, such as a car or a bike, geospatial information can be added to it.

The terrestrial coordinate system of geospatial data can be transformed to a desired local coordinate system such as in map creation. The framework is based on a sphere or planet shaped object.

With technological advancements, today geospatial data can be used to understand traffic patterns and probable crime situations in certain locations based on information gathered from the many endpoint devices available. Other uses include deriving information on the best location for starting a business.

The technology opens up new and interesting use cases for which geospatial data can be helpful in solving.
