Fortinet Security Fabric Explained

Fortinet Security Fabric Explained

The Fortinet Security Fabric is a security infrastructure that encompasses the entire network, providing security capabilities to mitigate any and all potential attack vectors within an organisation. The overarching idea of this kind of infrastructure is that the different points of a network are part of one single fabric that should be protected as a whole and not as separate parts or strands.

The three key attributes of the Fortinet Security Fabric are as follows:

  1. It is broad, utilising converged networking and security across edges, clouds, endpoints and users so it can perform coordinated threat detection and policy enforcement across the entire attack surface and lifecycle.
  2. It is integrated, unifying security, operations and performance for complete visibility, in turn closing security gaps and minimising the complexity of security.
  3. It is automated, leveraging cloud-scale and advanced Artificial Intelligence to automatically deliver near real-time and coordinated protection that spans the entire attack surface. This then results in efficient operations and faster time to prevention.

The expansive, all-in-one protection provided by the Fortinet Security Fabric is made possible by five key pillars, and they are:

  1. Security-Driven Networking, which combines networking and security into a single, integrated system expandable to any edge, thereby enabling digital innovation.
  2. Zero-Trust Access, which uses Fortinet Zero-Trust Access to verify everyone and everything that attempts to access the network.
  3. Adaptive Cloud, which ensures effective usage of cloud-based resources through auto-scaling, dynamic load-balancing, application user experience visibility and FortiGuard, an Artificial Intelligence-driven suite of security services that enable a context-aware policy.
  4. Fortinet Fabric Management Centre, which permits centralised management, network automation and orchestration and Security Fabric Analytics. This ensures a unified console across networks, endpoints and clouds, thereby improving efficiency, reducing risk and lowering the total cost of ownership.
  5. Open Ecosystem, which allows the Fortinet Security Fabric to expand further through seamless integrations with a range of Fabric-Ready Partner solutions but maintaining a single management console.

Needless to say, organisations deploying the Fortinet Security Fabric will be better positioned to keep up with today’s ever-evolving threat landscape, thus accelerating seamless, hitch-free digital innovation initiatives in today’s digitalised times.
